OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy at THUG Mansion is centered on the belief that spirituality is an essential component of the recovery process. This is exemplified in the story of Rowland Hazard and Carl Jung, two individuals who were instrumental in shaping our understanding of addiction and recovery. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, recognized that traditional psychiatric treatment methods were not enough to help Rowland Hazard overcome his addiction to alcohol. He suggested that Rowland seek out a religious group in order to have a "vital spiritual experience" and gain the support he needed to overcome his addiction. Rowland took this advice and joined The Oxford Group, a spiritual, evangelical group based on first-century Christian principles and practices. Through attending meetings and practicing the group's beliefs, Rowland had a conversion experience that released him from the obsession to drink and enabled him to maintain his sobriety.

At THUG Mansion, we follow in the footsteps of programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and incorporate spiritual principles and helping others as a means of achieving and maintaining sobriety. We believe that this approach can be particularly beneficial for individuals who have struggled with addiction, including drug addicts, criminals, and gang members. By focusing on spiritual growth and helping others, these individuals can find the support and guidance they need to overcome their addiction and build a better life for themselves.

In addition to incorporating spiritual principles into our program, we also recognize the importance of behavioral modification in the recovery process. This involves identifying and changing unhealthy patterns of behavior that may have contributed to an individual's addiction, and replacing them with healthy, positive habits. At THUG Mansion, we work with our residents to develop a customized plan that includes a range of therapeutic interventions, including skill-building workshops, and recreational activities, all designed to support the process of behavioral modification.

Overall, our philosophy at THUG Mansion is centered on the belief that by focusing on spiritual growth, helping others, and making positive changes in our behavior, we can overcome addiction and build a better, more fulfilling life for ourselves.
